1. Edison and Ford Winter Estates

An architectural wonder, a research lab, a museum, and a botanical garden. Those are just a few things that the Edison and Ford Winter Estates could be called. These historic Florida homes have preserved the winter retreats of two of America's greatest inventors, Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. Take a tour, stroll through the gardens, and experience one of the best attractions in Fort Myers.

2. Fort Myers River District

Downtown Fort Myers is known as the River District. This vibrant commercial area plays host to numerous restaurants, both upscale and down-to-earth. On a day off, you can stroll along the red brick streets under mighty palms, finding many interesting things to do in Fort Myers.

3. IMAG History & Science Center

Bringing the kids to Fort Myers? Don't miss the IMAG History & Science Center. This interactive museum features more than 60 exhibits, including a hurricane simulator. There are also space exhibits to spark your child's inner astronaut. If you're staying for a while, consider the various camps and children's programs offered at IMAG.

4. Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve

Visit Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve and explore more than 3,500 acres of preserved wetlands. Many animals call the slough (pronounced "sloo") home, including alligators, turtles, cranes, and otters. There's also a long boardwalk trail so you can stroll comfortably above the marshy ground.

5. Burroughs Home and Gardens

The last Georgian home from the turn of the 20th Century, the Burroughs Home and Gardens is a stunning historical spot in Fort Myers. You can walk among stately oaks, swaying palms, and lush gardens as you explore the property. Be sure to take a tour, which will let you relax in a rocking chair on the verandah as you gaze at the majestic Caloosahatchee River.

6. Lakes Park

Another favorite in Fort Myers is Lakes Park. Originating as a man-made quarry, Lakes Park has transformed into an outdoor destination. There are now walking and biking trails, boardwalks, picnic pavilions, gardens, and kayak and canoe rentals. Plus, there are endless spots for freshwater fishing.

7. Baseball Spring Training

Spring training is a popular tradition for many Fort Myers visitors. Both the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins train in Fort Myers. You'll find the Red Sox playing at JetBlue Park and the Twins batting at Hammond Stadium.
