Gourmet Burger Recipes for Your Next Camping Trip

Anyone who's been camping knows the essential experience of grilling burgers. The smoky smells and meals eaten outdoors form a timeless tradition. If you're looking to elevate your campfire cooking, these four gourmet burger recipes will do the trick!

1. Black and Blue Burger

Pairing smoky spices with the bold flavor of blue cheese, the Black and Blue Burger is a classic gourmet choice. Blackened seasoning, similar to Cajun seasoning, can be purchased or easily made at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chuck
  • Salt and blackening spice, to taste
  • 4 ounces crumbled blue cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard, etc.

Method

  1. Preheat the grill and add smoky wood chips if desired.
  2. Divide the ground chuck into four equal parts and shape into patties. Season with salt and blackening spice.
  3. Grill to an internal temperature of 160°F.
  4. Assemble by spreading mustard on the bottom bun, then layering with lettuce, tomato, the burger, onion, and blue cheese.
Juicy Lucy Burger

2. Juicy Lucy Burger

Originating from the Midwest, the Juicy Lucy burger features cheese inside the patty. For authenticity, classic sliced American cheese is the best choice.

Ingredients

  • Salt and pepper
  • 5 pounds ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • Caramelized onions, for topping
  • Sliced pickles, for topping
  • 4 hamburger buns

Method

  1. Divide the beef into four portions, then halve each portion and flatten them into patties.
  2. Season both sides with salt and pepper. Place a slice of cheese on one patty and cover with another patty, sealing the edges.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook burgers until seared, about 3-5 minutes per side.
  4. Assemble burgers with pickles and caramelized onions on the buns.
Garlic Truffle Gourmet Burger Recipe

3. Garlic Truffle Burger

Elevate your camping menu with the Garlic Truffle Burger, featuring savory beef, funky mushrooms, and Swiss cheese. This gourmet option pairs well with fries or a fresh salad.

Ingredients

  • 4 beef patties (homemade or frozen)
  • 2 cups cremini or shiitake mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 cup truffle aioli or truffle mayo

Method

  1. In a frying pan, melt butter over medium heat and cook mushrooms for about eight minutes until soft.
  2. Grill the burgers until desired doneness, topping each with two slices of Swiss cheese to melt.
  3. Spread truffle aioli on the bottom bun, then add the patty topped with mushrooms.
Black Bean Burgers

4. Black Bean Burger

For a delicious meatless option, try a Black Bean Burger. These are not only healthy but also customizable to suit your tastes.

Ingredients

  • 15-ounce can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • ½ green bell pepper
  • ½ small onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Hamburger buns and desired toppings

Method

  1. Mash black beans in a bowl using a fork or potato masher.
  2. Process bell pepper, onion, and garlic in a food processor until finely minced. Remove excess water using a fine mesh strainer.
  3. Combine the vegetable mixture with black beans and add spices. Mix in the beaten egg and breadcrumbs to form patties.
  4. Grill the burgers on a well-oiled grill for about five minutes per side and serve with your favorite toppings.
