6 Gulf State Park Trails to Try

1. Gulf Oak Ridge Trail

3.0 Miles (Paved)

The Gulf Oak Ridge Trail is the longest single trail in Gulf State Park. Stretching east to west across the northern border of the preserve, this winding trail features numerous picnic areas tucked away in the forest. Make sure to pack your lunch! The trail also connects the park to the Orange Beach Sportsplex, providing easy access to local sports facilities.

2. Lakeview Trail and Lake Crossing

2.8 Miles (Paved/Boardwalk)

If you're seeking a scenic walk along Lake Shelby, hop on the Lakeview Trail. This smooth, paved path runs around the western side of the lake. On the southern end, it transforms into the Lake Crossing Trail, a picturesque boardwalk that traverses the water. For a breathtaking experience, take a walk or bike ride at sunrise!

3. Gopher Tortoise Trail

1.5 Miles (Paved)

To continue enjoying the Lake Shelby area, try the Gopher Tortoise Trail. This trail extends along the lake's eastern edge and is one of the most beloved paths in Gulf State Park. It connects to the Lake Shelby overlook, which features a short boardwalk ideal for fishing.

4. Beach Mouse Bypass

1.1 Miles (Boardwalk)

The Beach Mouse Bypass is an easy boardwalk trail located by the Gulf Shores, making it perfect for families with children. Enjoy stunning views of coastal pines, sandy beaches, and the sparkling waters. The Beach Mouse Bypass also connects to a pedestrian bridge over AL-182, providing safe access to Orange Beach.

5. Catman Trail

2.7 Miles (Paved)

The Catman Trail is well-maintained and resembles a city greenway. Running along Catman Road, this trail takes you through a natural environment filled with pine forests, sand banks, and marshy lakes. As a bonus, the path leads directly to the Forest Pavilion and Butterfly Garden—a perfect spot to relax after a hike or bike ride.

6. Rosemary Dunes Trail

2.1 Miles (Paved)

Rounding out our list is the Rosemary Dunes Trail. This approximately two-mile path will guide you along its namesake dunes and past several picnic spots. With connections to AL-182, the Beach Mouse Bypass, and Catman Road, this easy trail offers a low-stress hiking experience.
