RVing with Dogs: 5 Essential Tips for a Pawsitive Adventure

RVing with dogs has become increasingly popular as pet owners prefer to travel with their furry friends instead of leaving them at home. Many Sun RV resorts are pet-friendly, featuring fenced dog parks and ample walking paths. To help make traveling with pets easier, here are five tips for RVing with dogs that will enhance your journey!

5 Tips for RVing with Dogs

Dog at the Vet

1. Visit the Vet

Before your next RV road trip, schedule a vet appointment. Ensure that your pet is up-to-date on vaccinations and treated for fleas and ticks. Don't forget to bring documentation, as some RV resorts require proof of current vaccinations for pets.

2. Pack for Pets

When preparing for your trip, make sure to pack essential items for your dog, including:

  • Food and water bowls
  • Leashes
  • Toys
  • Plastic bags (for cleaning up pet waste)
  • Medication
  • A first aid kit
  • A pet carrier
  • A jug of water for hydration during travel

3. Take Your Pet for a Long Walk

Before hitting the road, give your dog a nice long walk. If you have access to a fenced area, let your dog run free to burn off some energy. This will help them settle down during the long journey in the RV.

Walking Your Dog

4. Clean Up After Your Pet

Always clean up after your dog at your destination and along the road. Most Sun RV resorts with dog parks provide complimentary waste-pickup bags, but it's wise to bring your own while traveling. Keeping the environment clean is essential for everyone's enjoyment.

5. Call Ahead Wherever You Go

While many Sun RV resorts are pet-friendly, not all destinations are. Before visiting national and state parks, beaches, or other attractions, be sure to call ahead and confirm their pet policies.
