Spring Cleaning: 6 DIY Ideas for a Fresh Home and Yard

With the change of seasons, spring cleaning is essential for transitioning into summer. It may seem daunting, but breaking it into smaller tasks makes it manageable. Here are six spring cleaning projects you can tackle during your spare time to enjoy a cleaner home, yard, and RV!

Woman Painting

1. Repaint and Touch Up

Spending more time at home? Use it to tackle painting projects. Retouch scuffed areas, and consider refreshing your color palette with cheerful pastels that celebrate spring. You likely have the supplies you need to get started!

2. Dust All the Nooks and Crannies

Spring cleaning means addressing those often-overlooked areas. Dusting all nooks and crannies is crucial. Equip yourself with dust wipes and a Swiffer duster to reach difficult spots. Remember to move furniture to eliminate hidden dust!

3. Donate Unneeded Items

You don't need to go full Marie Kondo, but decluttering is essential. Gather items you no longer need, and sort through them to identify donations. For RVers, consolidating space is particularly beneficial, especially in the kitchen where room is limited.

4. Clean and Prep the Yard for Spring

Preparing your yard varies by climate. In warmer areas, this may involve using a leaf blower and clearing sticks, while colder regions may require raking wet leaves buried under snow. Key tasks include:

  • Raking and collecting wet leaves
  • Picking up sticks
  • Applying fertilizer or grass seed
  • Increasing watering

5. Plan a Garden

As summer approaches, start planning your garden. Decide if you want a flower garden or one with fruits and vegetables. Consider your local climate and soil conditions, as they will influence your plant choices. You can even use tools like the Plan-A-Garden from Better Homes & Gardens to visualize your layout!

Window Washing

6. Wash Windows and Screens

Windows and screens often accumulate dust and dirt, but they're easy to clean. For interiors, use glass cleaner and a cloth. Exteriors may require a stronger wash first. Screens can be removed and cleaned with soapy water and a soft brush, then rinsed with a hose and air-dried.

We hope these spring cleaning tips help you refresh your space! Share this post with family, friends, and neighbors looking to embark on their own spring cleaning journey.
