Tips for RVing with Your Pet

Traveling with your furry friends can be a delightful experience, especially when RVing. Unlike flying or cruising, RVing allows you to bring your pets along without the stress of boarding fees or leaving them behind. With a little preparation, you can enjoy a memorable adventure with your four-legged family members. Here are some essential tips for RVing with your pet.

1. Visit the Vet

Before you hit the road, schedule a visit to the vet. Ensure that all your pet's vaccinations are current, as they may encounter wild or unvaccinated animals during your travels. Additionally, treat your pets for fleas and ticks to prevent any unwanted stowaways in your RV.

2. Have Proper ID

Equip your pets with identification tags that include your contact information. Accidents happen, and it's crucial to have a way to reunite if your pet gets lost. Bring a recent photo of your pet to assist in identification if necessary.

3. Always Call Ahead

Not all RV resorts are pet-friendly. Some campgrounds have breed restrictions or limits on the number of pets allowed. To avoid disappointment, always call ahead to confirm your pet's welcome status. Fortunately, all Sun RV Resorts are pet-friendly!

4. Pack for Pets

Create a dedicated bin or bag for your pet's supplies, including:

  • Food and bowls
  • Leash and toys
  • Waste pickup bags
  • Medications
  • Veterinary information and first aid kit

Consider bringing a crate or pet carrier for added safety and comfort during travel.

5. Food, Water, Air, Temperature

Keep your pet hydrated and fed during your trip. Bring plenty of food in an airtight container to maintain freshness. Always ensure your pets have access to fresh water. Be mindful of extreme temperatures—never leave your pet in the RV without proper ventilation or air conditioning.

6. Stretch Those Legs

After hours of travel, both you and your pet need to stretch your legs. Take breaks at rest stops to allow your pet to walk, relieve themselves, and explore. Regular breaks help keep your pet comfortable and happy.

7. Follow the Rules

Upon arrival, respect the campground's pet policies. Familiarize yourself with leash laws, designated walking areas, and waste disposal protocols. Cleaning up after your pet is essential for being a courteous camper and ensuring a positive experience for everyone.
