The Ultimate Florida Road Trip: 7 Must-See Destinations

The Sunshine State is an ideal vacation spot, perfect for an unforgettable road trip filled with stunning beaches, diverse attractions, and breathtaking views. Whether you're starting in Jacksonville or ending your journey in Orlando, this seven-stop itinerary will showcase the best Florida has to offer. Plus, each destination is conveniently located near our resorts across the state, making your getaway planning easier!

How to Plan Your Getaway to the Sunshine State

Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens

1. Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, Jacksonville

Kick off your Florida adventure at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, home to over 2,000 exotic animals and countless plant species. As one of only seven zoos in the U.S. with an on-site animal wellness team, this world-class facility guarantees a memorable experience. Don't forget to purchase your tickets in advance!

Conveniently located just north of downtown Jacksonville, the zoo is surrounded by fantastic dining options like Junior's Seafood Restaurant and Grill, perfect for a quick bite before you hit the road to Daytona Beach.

2. Daytona Beach Main Street Pier, Daytona Beach

Your next stop is the Daytona Beach Main Street Pier, just under a two-hour drive from Jacksonville. This lively hub features restaurants, gift shops, and family-friendly entertainment. Spend the day exploring the beach and boardwalk, and don't miss the thrilling rides at Screamer's Park, located south of the pier.

Plan to stay overnight in Daytona, as the next leg of your journey leads to the far reaches of the state.

The Florida Keys

3. Southernmost Point of the Continental U.S., Key West

Prepare for a scenic 7.5-hour drive to Key West, the southernmost point of the continental U.S. Along the way, consider stopping in Miami for a meal before continuing to the Keys. Key West's iconic concrete buoy marks the end of the road—get there early to snap a photo before the crowds arrive!

While in town, explore the vibrant Duval Street, known for its shops and entertainment, and make sure to visit the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum if you're a literary enthusiast.

4. Manatee Park, Fort Myers

After enjoying Key West, make your way to Fort Myers, where Manatee Park awaits. This unique refuge is a prime spot for viewing manatees migrating inland during the winter months. If you're visiting in summer, you can still rent a kayak from Manatee Kayaking Company and enjoy the beautiful waters.

Tamps Riverwalk

5. The Florida Aquarium, Tampa

Next, head to Tampa, just a few hours up Interstate 75. The Florida Aquarium offers an immersive experience featuring sea life from Florida and beyond. Don't miss out on guided experiences like the wild dolphin cruise, which provides unforgettable memories of marine wildlife in their natural habitat.

6. Florida Air Museum, Lakeland

A short drive from Tampa (under 50 minutes) brings you to Lakeland, home to the Florida Air Museum. This fascinating collection highlights Florida's aviation history, featuring exhibits like the Howard Hughes exhibit and a discovery zone for kids. Admission starts at $5 for students, with children under 11 free.

7. Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando

Your final stop on this incredible Florida road trip is the legendary Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. Just an hour's drive from Lakeland, Disney World boasts a plethora of parks, including Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. Prepare for a day of fun, as this massive resort offers something for everyone!

These seven destinations provide a glimpse into the diverse experiences Florida has to offer. Remember, the beauty of planning your vacation is its flexibility. Feel free to customize your own "Florida loop" with family or friends, and with over 50 resorts across the state, booking your Florida stay has never been easier.
