Marathon is a city spanning 13 islands in the Florida Keys. The locale is legendary for watersports, including reef diving, so be sure to bring your snorkeling gear. Bahia Honda State Park and Indian Key Historic State Park are two renowned spots for underwater exploration.
You might also enjoy spending a day on the sand at Sombrero Beach. This is both a recreational beach and a protected turtle nesting area, so please pay attention to any restrictions regarding beach access.
Speaking of turtles, you can learn more about the gentle creatures at The Turtle Hospital, which offers daily tours. Similarly, Marathon is home to the Dolphin Research Center, where you can see and play with dolphins.
The other Florida Keys also have many attractions. You'll find lots of golf courses, as well as several spots for scuba diving. Additionally, you can walk and bike on the Florida Overseas Heritage Trail. If you're up for a day trip, drive 57 miles southwest to Key West and explore the art galleries and gift shops of the southernmost town in the continental United States.
